The H2Excellence Finnish Center of Vocational Excellence recently organized a highly successful seminar titled “Green Hydrogen Value Chain and Cross-Cutting Issues” as part of the EnergyWeek 2025. The event hosted by Mr. Kari Valkama from Technology Centre Merinova Oy attracted a full house and provided an in-depth exploration of the opportunities and challenges surrounding Finland’s hydrogen economy.
The seminar commenced with a warm welcome from Mrs. Marja-Riitta Vest, Director of RDI and Business Services at Vaasa University of Applied Sciences (VAMK). Her opening remarks set the stage for a series of insightful presentations and discussions.
Dr. Karna Dahal, EU Project Manager and Lecturer at VAMK, introduced the H2Excellence Project, highlighting ongoing research and collaboration efforts in hydrogen technology. This was followed by Mr. Tero Ijäs, Ecosystem Manager for Energy at Business Finland, who delved into the possibilities and enabling effects of hydrogen innovations, emphasizing the role of innovation in advancing Finland’s hydrogen transition.
Dr. Meri-Katriina Pyhäranta, Leading Regulatory Advisor at Gasgrid Finland Oy, provided a regulatory perspective, discussing the role of the hydrogen network in developing a hydrogen economy. She highlighted the necessary infrastructure and policy considerations for a functioning hydrogen market.
From an industry-driven viewpoint, Mr. Herkko Plit, Founder and CEO of P2X Solutions Oy, shared the latest advancements in hydrogen production and market exploration, underscoring Finland’s growing influence in the global hydrogen economy.
The seminar concluded with an engaging panel discussion on the opportunities and challenges in Finland’s green hydrogen value chain. The panel featuring Mr. Tero Ijäs, Dr. Meri-Katriina Pyhäranta, and Mr. Herkko Plit and moderated by Mr. Kari Valkama offered valuable insights and fostered a lively exchange of ideas.
