The hydrogen scenario in Portugal
The hydrogen sector in Portugal is rapidly emerging as a key component of the country’s energy transition and decarbonization goals. The National Hydrogen Strategy (EN-H2), launched in 2020, aims to position Portugal as a leader in green hydrogen production, leveraging its abundant renewable energy sources. With significant investments in infrastructure, such as the hydrogen hub at Sines Port, and support from European funds, Portugal plans to export green hydrogen to Europe and beyond. While the sector faces challenges, including high initial costs and infrastructure needs, it offers substantial opportunities for industrial decarbonization, job creation, and technological innovation.
