The hydrogen scenario in France
France was among the first countries to identify the full potential of hydrogen, noting its ability to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In 2018, the French government decided to support the sector and allocated resources to it. Since 2020, a national strategy of 7 billion euros has been implemented with the following objectives :
1. Install enough electrolysers to make a significant contribution to the decarbonisation of the economy
2. Develop clean mobility, particularly for heavy vehicles
3. Build an industrial sector in France that creates jobs and guarantees technological mastery
A new support mechanism to produce renewable hydrogen worth 4 billion euros has been added in 2023. Un updated strategy will be published soon for the period till 2035.
