The hydrogen scenario in Finland

Finland is making green hydrogen a key part of its plan to become carbon neutral by 2035 and carbon negative by 2050. The green hydrogen plays a central role in the Finland’s decarbonization efforts, enabling efficient renewable energy use and long-term storage. The Finnish government aims to become a leader in clean hydrogen and adopted a resolution in February 2023 to support its development. Finland aims to account for 10% of the EU’s clean hydrogen production and use by 2030. It is building national and regional hydrogen networks and supporting collaboration between companies to boost the hydrogen economy. Key sectors include industrial hydrogen applications, synthetic fuels, and low-carbon steel production.
